eSignature now allowed by IRS
The IRS now allows Electronic Signatures on tax returns, which is optional.
By signing a tax return you are declaring “under penalties of perjury that the return is true, correct and complete”, as well as your consent to disclose this information to the IRS and third party Electronic Return Transmitters (our tax software company). In the past the IRS wanted us to keep records of your actual signature on forms 8879 or 8453. Now they are happy with the eSignature technology and allow you to sign your returns electronically.
This works in the following manner:
1) To use the e-signature feature you must have your LMGW online client access account registered. Your return and the e-signature package will be delivered to this location upon completion of your tax return.
2) We send you a link where you will verify your identity, review your tax return, and find the signature forms.
3) You review your tax return (online) and approve, then sign electronically. If filing jointly with your spouse, spouse’s signature is also required.
4) You can immediately download a convenient zip file that contains your copy of the e-Signed returns once e-Signature has been completed.
In addition to being easy (no more printing forms, signing and faxing back), this saves time and paper, and eliminates lost mail.
